About the position

The Open Space Technician position at Highlands Ranch Metro District involves performing a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks related to the maintenance and operations of the district's natural areas. The role emphasizes safety, customer service, and effective management of open space resources, including trail maintenance, vegetation management, and wildlife management. The technician will work independently and as part of a team, utilizing various equipment and tools to ensure the upkeep of parks and open spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with established safety policies and procedures to ensure safety for self and others.
  • Prioritize excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Perform general open space maintenance including trail maintenance, vegetation management, and trash removal.
  • Assist in implementing vegetation and wildlife management plans.
  • Maintain knowledge of resource maintenance and management practices.
  • Operate midsized equipment for excavating, mowing, and snow removal operations.
  • Complete work orders using the Asset Essentials work order and asset management system.
  • Contribute to the snow removal program, including weekend and nighttime hours as needed.
  • Assist with setting up and taking down special event equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Natural Resource Management or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in open space/natural resource management.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and walk/stand for long periods.

Nice-to-haves

  • Rangeland and Right of Ways herbicide applicators license from the Colorado Department of Agriculture within the first 12 months of employment.
