About the position
The Operating Apprentice position at West Fraser is an entry-level role designed to provide training in the basic operations of a planer or sawmill. The apprentice will learn to operate various machines and perform essential tasks while gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic work environment. The role involves significant physical activity, including standing, walking, and lifting, with opportunities for career advancement upon certification on specific machines.
Responsibilities
- Learn the basic operation of machines in the planer or sawmill.
- Assist and support the operator in assigned areas.
- Perform clean-up activities including sweeping and shoveling.
- Pick up and handle boards weighing between 5 to 35 lbs, occasionally more.
- Complete training to qualify for operating specific machines.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting occasionally, up to 50 lbs.
