About the position

The Operating Engineer position in Los Angeles, CA, involves overseeing the safe operation and maintenance of plant equipment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and managing outside contractors. The role requires technical expertise in operating various systems and equipment, as well as the ability to enforce safety measures and conduct maintenance activities effectively.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to and has full working knowledge of the plant safety program.
• Works with the operations shift team to enforce safety rules and procedures on a daily basis.
• Oversees outside maintenance and contractors to ensure a safe working environment.
• Performs operating, regulating, and adjusting duties to maintain control of water levels, temperatures, and output of plant equipment.
• Operates oil purifying and filtering equipment, maintains fluid flows, and adjusts flows as required.
• Operates water treatment and gas handling equipment, and cleans strainers and wire screens as needed.
• Issues Safe Work Permits and initiates Lock Out/Tag Out clearances and isolations.
• Conducts confined space permit surveys and issues Hot Work Permits.
• Responsible for plant housekeeping programs and material handling safety precautions.
• Operates computer systems for sub-units within the plant.
• Performs functional tests and interlock testing as directed by the control room.
• Coordinates and participates in on-shift preventative maintenance activities.
• Ensures smooth and accurate shift turnover through proper communication.
• Completes other duties as required.

Requirements

• Chiller operations experience and aero derivative gas turbine operations experience highly desired.
• Ability to climb vertical ladders and work a twelve (12) hour shift (both days and nights).
• Must be able to wear and use a respirator, bend, stoop, crawl into restricted spaces, and lift 40 pounds.
• Responsible for performing complex work assignments involving independent judgment.
