About the position

The Operating Engineer at JLL is responsible for providing maintenance, monitoring, and repair services in a critical facilities environment. This role involves ensuring the continuous operation of all building systems, including mechanical, electrical, and emergency backup systems, while maintaining a safe and efficient workplace. The engineer will analyze system operations, perform preventive maintenance, and oversee contractor activities, ensuring compliance with safety and operational procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance on building systems including fire/life safety, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and emergency backup systems.
  • Monitor operation and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment.
  • Record readings and make adjustments to ensure proper operation of equipment.
  • Install and repair plumbing, piping, and electrical systems.
  • Operate and maintain critical equipment including UPS systems, generators, and chillers.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies for hazardous materials storage and disposal.
  • Oversee contractor activities within the building and maintain engineering logs and data sheets.
  • Complete Critical Environment Operations & HSSE training and ensure contractors are informed about building functions.
  • Understand and comply with emergency escalation procedures and critical facility work authorizations.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in a data center or critical facility environment.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Universal Technician for CFC's (or within 90 days of employment).
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and CMMS systems.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with strong organizational and analytical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with UPS systems and emergency generators.
  • Knowledge of building management systems.
