About the position

The Operating Engineer position at Atkinson Construction involves operating various heavy machinery and equipment on construction job sites. This role encompasses responsibilities for both the operation and maintenance of equipment, as well as performing inspections and assisting with site preparation. The position is available for different levels, including Apprentice, Journeyman, Foreman, and General Foreman, and requires adherence to safety procedures and operational protocols.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as dozers, rollers, scrapers, and forklifts.
• Run cranes while ensuring compliance with safety procedures.
• Maintain and repair various types of heavy equipment.
• Operate portable rock plants and perform maintenance on plant equipment.
• Conduct inspections and testing for construction materials including concrete and soils.
• Use dredges for excavating waterways.
• Perform surveying tasks for various construction projects using advanced technology.
• Operate concrete pumps and control the output of concrete.

Requirements

• Experience operating heavy machinery and equipment in a construction environment.
• Knowledge of safety procedures related to heavy equipment operation.
• Ability to perform maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment.
• Familiarity with construction materials and inspection processes.
• Experience in surveying and layout for construction projects.

Nice-to-haves

• Certification in operating cranes or heavy machinery.
• Experience with electrical systems and welding for equipment maintenance.
• Familiarity with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and surveying technology.
