About the position

The Operating Engineer position at Atkinson Construction involves the operation of various heavy machinery and equipment on construction job sites. This role encompasses multiple levels, including Apprentice, Journeyman, Foreman, and General Foreman, and requires adherence to safety procedures while performing tasks such as equipment operation, maintenance, and inspections. The position also includes supervisory responsibilities for Foremen overseeing a crew of operating engineers.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as dozers, rollers, scrapers, and forklifts.
• Run cranes while ensuring compliance with safety procedures.
• Maintain and repair various types of heavy equipment.
• Operate and maintain portable rock plants and associated equipment.
• Perform maintenance on asphalt, rock, sand, and gravel plants, including electrical systems and welding.
• Conduct inspections and testing for reinforced concrete, soils, structural masonry, and other materials.
• Use dredges for excavating waterways.
• Layout and survey for high-rise buildings, roads, and other developments using advanced surveying tools.
• Operate concrete pumps, including truck-mounted boom pumps and line pumps.
• Supervise and coordinate a crew of operating engineers (for Foreman role).

Requirements

• Experience operating heavy machinery and equipment in construction settings.
• Knowledge of safety procedures related to heavy equipment operation.
• Ability to perform maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment.
• Familiarity with construction inspection and testing processes.
• Experience with surveying techniques and equipment.

Nice-to-haves
