Operating Room Aide (36 hours per week)

About the position

The position involves assisting the Surgical Team in the intraoperative care of perioperative patients. The role includes responsibilities such as preparing the operating room, handling instruments and supplies, assisting with patient transportation, and performing housekeeping duties between surgical cases. The individual will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the surgical environment, ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available for procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Surgical Team in intraoperative care of patients.
• Set up and clean the operating room before and after procedures.
• Handle and prepare surgical instruments and supplies.
• Assist with patient transportation and obtain necessary beds.
• Perform housekeeping duties between surgical cases as required.
• Maintain accurate inventories of supplies and materials.
• Clean, sterilize, and assemble instruments and equipment for procedures.
• Demonstrate aseptic technique while opening supplies and preparing surgical sites.
• Transport patients to and from the operating room.
• Decontaminate and sterilize instruments as needed.
• Monitor and maintain storage of gases used in the operating room.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• CNA or previous housekeeping experience preferred.
• Some computer skills are necessary.
• Knowledge of surgical consents and patient readiness for surgery.
• Familiarity with autoclave testing and cleaning procedures.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with cleaning after C-Diff, aerosolizing, or Covid procedures.
• Proper handling of formalin and cleanup procedures.
