About the position

The Operating Room (OR) Aide at Bon Secours is a vital role within the healthcare team, responsible for assisting with patient care activities under the supervision of a registered nurse. This position is essential in ensuring that the operating room is prepared and maintained for surgical procedures. The OR Aide will be involved in various tasks including transporting, lifting, and positioning patients, as well as cleaning the operating rooms between cases. Additionally, the aide is responsible for restocking and maintaining sufficient supplies for daily use, ensuring that the surgical team has everything they need at their fingertips. The OR Aide is expected to demonstrate engagement and initiative, carrying out both written and oral instructions with minimal direction. This role requires a proactive approach to maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff alike. The aide will actively participate in the team concept, performing additional assignments as needed when the workload requires it. Heavy lifting is a significant part of this role, and the individual must possess excellent communication skills and attention to detail. The ability to work well with others and function with minimal supervision is crucial for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient care activities under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Transport, lift, and position patients as needed.
  • Clean operating rooms between surgical cases.
  • Restock and maintain sufficient supplies for daily use in the operating room.
  • Carry out written and oral instructions with minimal direction.
  • Support and participate in maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Perform additional assignments not directly related to the job when workload requires and as directed.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a hospital setting and patient care desired.
  • BLS-Heart saver certified or achieves it within 30 days of employment.
