About the position
The Operating Room Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the surgical team by providing direct and indirect patient care. This position involves a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring the safety and comfort of patients undergoing surgical procedures, while also maintaining the functionality of the operating room environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist other members of the surgical team in delivering patient care.
- Shave and transport patients to and from the operating room.
- Assist with positioning patients for procedures.
- Care for and handle all surgical equipment.
- Order, receive, and stock supplies as needed.
- Perform clerical tasks and complete errands related to patient care.
- Create a safe and private environment for patients and their families.
- Collaborate with the charge nurse to address patient care issues.
- Support the charge nurse in delivering high-quality patient care.
- Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in surgical services.
- Clean, distribute, and deliver equipment to the operating rooms regularly.
- Check and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Less than 1 year of nursing assistance or emergency medical technician experience or equivalent required.
- Basic Life Support certification within 1 year of employment.
