About the position

The Operating Room Assistant (PCA II) at Swedish First Hill plays a crucial role in providing patient care and support within the operating room environment. This full-time position involves working under the supervision of registered nurses to assist with patient transport, care, and documentation, ensuring a safe and efficient workflow in the surgical setting. Responsibilities

  • Transfer patients into and out of transport vehicles (wheelchair, stretcher, bed).
  • Transport patients between pre/post-op care areas and discharge destinations.
  • Assist with positioning patients and direct requests to appropriate staff members.
  • Communicate and document daily activities and care provided to patients accurately and legibly.
  • Provide patient care as directed by the team RN, including making and cleaning beds, assisting with ADLs, and vital signs.
  • Maintain patient privacy and handle all patient information confidentially.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to meet patient care goals and seek help when needed.
  • Answer unit telephone and patient call system in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with nurses and team members to organize and prioritize patient care functions.
  • Perform tasks to ensure equipment readiness before and after patient movements.
  • Restock and charge supplies after use, maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Set up and maintain the neatness of patient areas and clean equipment as directed.
  • Maintain quality control logs for various medical supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with patient admission, discharge, transfer, and associated documentation.
  • Follow established guidelines in emergency situations and infection control.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement in care delivery.
  • Participate in educational activities and quality improvement programs.
  • Perform assigned technical skills competently, such as glucose monitoring and specimen collection.
  • Maintain a professional appearance while performing duties.
  • Perform the role of Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) as directed.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience performing duties of a Perioperative Care Associate I or equivalent experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Upon hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association.
