About the position

The Operating Room Nurse Manager at the Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Buffalo VA Operating Room. This role includes direct supervision of nursing staff, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care outcomes. The Nurse Manager will also be involved in staff training, development, and performance evaluations, while promoting a culture of accountability and high-quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Direct oversight and accountability for the Buffalo VA Operating Room operations.
  • Supervise and direct Registered Nurses, Surgical Technicians, and Nursing Assistants in the Operating Room nursing team.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards in the Operating Room.
  • Collaborate with OR Supply Chain/Logistics and sterile supply/processing staff regarding sterile equipment management.
  • Implement evidence-based programs and processes to improve care outcomes.
  • Provide coverage for other Nurse Managers as needed.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
  • Support the professional development of healthcare professionals in the Operating Room.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S.
  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
  • Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination.

Nice-to-haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • MSN preferred.
  • Nurse Manager experience preferred.
  • Operating Room RN experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of current AORN Standards preferred.
  • Experience with equipment management in the Operating Room preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
