About the position

The Operating Room Nurse PRN at Mid-America Surgery Institute plays a crucial role in providing safe and effective nursing care in an ambulatory surgery center. This position involves overseeing surgical procedures, managing patient care, and ensuring a smooth transition between surgeries while demonstrating a commitment to patient well-being and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the instrument and equipment set-up for the operating room, utilizing preference cards and anticipating surgeons' needs.
  • Coordinate and oversee the operating room during surgical cases as the circulator.
  • Facilitate effective and efficient transitions between surgical procedures.
  • Utilize appropriate body mechanics in moving patients to stretchers and operating room tables to prevent injury.
  • Manage patient care and medication, including assistance with anesthesia.
  • Consistently review charts for completeness in accordance with documentation protocols before and after surgical procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an operating room setting, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center.
  • Active RN license as required by state of employment or appropriate compact licensure.
  • Valid BCLS Certification upon employment; online certification not acceptable.
  • ACLS certification as required by facility.

Nice-to-haves

  • CNOR certification preferred.
