About the position

The Operating Systems Administrator at Five Rivers Analytics is responsible for managing and maintaining the organization's operating systems to ensure high availability and security. This role requires in-depth knowledge of operating system administration, system optimization, and adherence to DoD cybersecurity standards, particularly in a classified environment.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, configures and maintains Windows and Linux operating systems on servers and workstations.
  • Monitors system performance, optimizes resources, and ensures system security.
  • Applies patches and updates to operating systems manually and by automation.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves operating system-related issues promptly.
  • Collaborates with the cybersecurity team to implement security measures and ensure compliance with DoD standards.
  • Conducts regular system backups and recovery procedures, preferably with experience in Veritas NetBackup.
  • Stays updated with the latest trends and best practices in operating system administration.
  • Performs SCAP scans and fills out STIG checklists.
  • Manages database operations, including creating and executing queries and modifying mappings between databases.
  • Handles Active Directory and Group Policy Object (GPO) management.
  • Manages Hyper-V file services, DHCP, Print Services, IIS, Apache, and Microsoft SQL software.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree and 1 year experience or no Bachelor's degree and 2 years experience.
  • One year experience working in UNCLASSIFIED and CLASSIFIED environments.
  • IAT-II certification is required (CompTIA Security+, CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, or SSCP).
  • CompTIA Linux+ or Server+ required.
  • Active SECRET security clearance required.
  • Proven experience as an Operating System Administrator or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of operating system administration and optimization.
  • Familiarity with DoD Cyber Workforce standards and requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Veritas NetBackup for system backups and recovery.
  • Familiarity with SCAP scans and STIG checklists.
