About the position

This position is an essential part of Sherwin-Williams' manufacturing team, specifically designed for the operation of process equipment, reactors, and other manufacturing machinery within a production plant. The Operating Technician will be responsible for operating a computerized control system, preparing and loading materials, and performing quality control tests to ensure that production standards are met. This role is classified as a standalone hourly position within the production function of the plant, emphasizing the importance of the Reactor Operator in maintaining efficient operations and product quality. The Operating Technician will work primarily on the 2nd shift, from 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The responsibilities of this position include staging, preparing, lifting, and loading raw materials and other components required for the production process. The technician will utilize both computerized and manual processes to perform tasks, ensuring compliance with operating policies and procedures to maintain a safe and efficient working environment. This may involve wearing safety equipment or gear as required. In addition to operating machinery, the technician will monitor and adjust gauges, valves, switches, pumps, and other components according to production requirements. They will also be responsible for completing appropriate paperwork and entering data regarding materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods to ensure accurate records. The role requires effective communication with maintenance, quality control, warehousing, and other departments to maintain a safe and effective environment and to ensure the production of quality products. Quality control analysis and testing will also be part of the technician's duties to ensure adherence to established standards and parameters.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a reactor utilizing a computerized control system to ensure proper chemical reactions and requirements occur.
  • Stage, prepare, lift, and load raw materials and other components required for the production process.
  • Monitor and adjust gauges, valves, switches, pumps, and other components according to production requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment and efficient operations.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork and/or enter data regarding materials, work-in-progress, finished goods, and other operations.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and safe working environment, performing various janitorial or housekeeping tasks as needed.
  • Communicate with maintenance, quality control, warehousing, and other departments to maintain a safe and effective environment and ensure quality products.
  • Prepare and/or perform quality control analysis, testing, and review to ensure adherence to standards and parameters.
  • Operate a variety of computerized, manual, and mechanical equipment to mix, fill, unload, label, pack, and store working-progress and finished goods.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 2 years of work experience in a manufacturing and/or distribution facility or in an operations environment.
  • At least 1 year of work experience monitoring gauges, dials, or other machinery indicators to ensure proper operation of machinery.
  • At least 1 year of work experience operating mobile power equipment such as lift trucks, tow motors, or pallet handling equipment.
