About the position

The Operational Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the operational accounting functions including Inventory/Costing, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable within a publicly traded manufacturing company. This role ensures compliance with accounting principles and practices, supervises the accounting team, and implements automated accounting solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day activities of the accounts payable and accounts receivable departments to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Oversee the company-wide credit, collection, and cash application processes, ensuring adherence to policies and internal controls.
  • Manage the inventory accounting process, providing support for plant locations and advising on proper procedures.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings, including detailed account reconciliations for assigned functions.
  • Analyze balance sheet accounts monthly to ensure integrity and accuracy.
  • Assist the controller with quarter-end and year-end audits by third-party public accounting firms.
  • Help manage the company's commercial insurance programs and support various audits.
  • Prepare periodic tax and statutory filings, including sales and use taxes, property and excise taxes, and 1099 filings.
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures for continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and training of new automated systems.
  • Provide financial analysis to support decision-making and explain financial variances.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 10 years of directly related experience in progressively responsible positions.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing personnel.
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry with a focus on inventory and cost accounting.
  • Strong Excel skills are required.
  • Experience with Epicor ERP systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience with automated accounting systems.
  • Familiarity with financial analysis and reporting.
