About the position

The Operational Controls Program (OCP) is a newly established team within Vanguard's Global Risk & Security division, aimed at enhancing the internal control infrastructure and managing process risks effectively. The program focuses on deploying process-specific control assessments and ensuring the sustainability of a universally adopted controls framework. The project lead roles available include Methodology Advisor, Assessment Lead, and Remediation Lead, each contributing to the overall goal of fostering risk awareness and accountability across business lines.

Responsibilities

  • Manages projects or multiple workstreams within a broader project or program.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors project plans.
  • Contributes expertise to major project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks.
  • Provides insight on best practices and common obstacles based on prior experiences.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to ensure projects are aligned with the overall company strategy and market conditions.
  • Communicates project status and issues regularly to stakeholders, including leaders, team members, and senior managers.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships and fosters communication between internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Influences key decisions across stakeholder groups.
  • Proactively identifies, manages, and mitigates risks and any related project issues.
  • Communicates solutions on key issues or projects to management and stakeholders to obtain their input and buy-in as appropriate.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years related work experience.
  • Two years of managing a project preferred.
  • Risk and controls experience preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience required.
  • Minimum of eight years related business experience, with at least four years of project management experience.
  • Previous people-leadership experience preferred.
  • Graduate degree preferred.
  • Experience with controls, audit, or risk required.
  • Experience within the financial services industry preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem identification, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of business personnel.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across a range of levels and divisions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience testing, designing, or evaluating process workflows and controls preferred.
