About the position

As a Research Analyst Senior at GDIT, you will play a crucial role in supporting the FAA's Airport Uncrewed Aviation System (UAS) Research. This position focuses on conducting quantitative analysis to assess UAS detection and mitigation systems, enhancing airport operations through innovative research and collaboration with a dynamic team. Your work will involve data analysis, technical writing, and the development of research plans, ultimately contributing to safer and smarter aviation practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative analysis using operations research tools and techniques.
  • Assist in defining data mining strategies and identifying innovative research themes related to UAS detection and mitigation.
  • Support the development and execution of plans to assess UAS detection capabilities.
  • Write, co-write, edit, and publish various outputs including working papers and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with internal and external clients to meet analytics demands.
  • Analyze data and identify visual representations of findings, such as heat maps and scatter plots.
  • Work outdoors to support system installations, calibration, and data collection.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in operations research, computer science, engineering, mathematics, information systems, management science, aviation, aeronautical, or air traffic management/science.
  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience in research and data analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to explain complex technical material to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with data aggregation, clean-up, and normalization for analytics projects.
  • Familiarity with MS Excel and MS Word.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree, MBA, or PhD in a related field may substitute for bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience.
  • Basic understanding of evaluating functional capabilities of systems or technologies.
  • Proficiency in using MS Excel formulas or tools like JMP for statistical analysis and data visualization.
