About the position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Operational Research Analyst I Energy for a hybrid/remote position based out of our Richland, WA office. This role is part of the Digital Advanced Analytics team, where you will be responsible for developing, verifying, validating, and maintaining mathematical models and discrete event simulation models. These models will address a wide range of performance issues in both existing and new nuclear facilities. You will facilitate multi-discipline workshops to identify modeling needs and input requirements, analyze trends and model results to predict facility performance, and identify key operational risks and bottleneck areas. Your work will involve collaborating with stakeholders to minimize or eliminate operational risks, identify improvements, and optimize overall plant performance. Additionally, you will participate in business development by producing materials for bid and proposal documents that explain our operational research modeling capabilities. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, verify, validate, and maintain mathematical models and discrete event simulation models.
  • Facilitate multi-discipline workshops to identify modeling needs and model input requirements.
  • Analyze trends and model results to predict facility performance and identify key operational risks and bottleneck areas.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to minimize/eliminate operational risks and optimize overall plant performance.
  • Participate in business development by producing materials for bid and proposal documents explaining operational research modeling capabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics Science, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Process Engineering, Operational Research, Production Engineering or Management Science.
  • Minimum two years' experience in mathematical modeling.
  • Experience with discrete event simulation modeling preferred.
  • Proficiency in using simulation software such as Witness, Arena, Simul8, AnyLogic, Simio or similar.
  • Data manipulation and analysis experience using Excel, Tableau, Power Bi, Access, Visual Basic, MATLAB, R or SQL.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to critically review work produced by the Operational Research team and provide technical guidance, feedback, mentorship, and perform required quality control functions.
  • Self-starter who can work in a team environment with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Familiarity with stochastic simulation tools such as the WITNESS suite of modeling software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the energy sector or nuclear facilities.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies.
