About the position
The Operational Technology Consultant at Entergy is tasked with ensuring compliance with Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards for Real Time Systems at the company's fossil fuel-powered electricity generation plants. This role involves designing and developing computer system solutions that address complex challenges within the power generation sector, emphasizing reliability and execution speed. The consultant will apply software quality assurance principles to configuration management system software and will be responsible for creating computer and information system plans that leverage existing technology while judiciously integrating new technologies as needed. In addition to technical responsibilities, the OT Consultant will provide customer support for problem reporting and service requests, which includes developing and delivering training to end users on the systems they manage. The role requires a strategic approach to planning computer hardware, software, and network infrastructure to align with business objectives and corporate standards. The consultant will conduct business analytical studies to ensure that the System Business Unit's needs are met and will analyze user processes to identify areas for improvement. The position also involves performing audits of organizational work, revising procedures to comply with regulatory requirements, and communicating technical information effectively. The consultant will implement, test, troubleshoot, and enhance electronic automation and control systems to improve production quality and efficiency. This includes checking control system schematics and specifications, diagnosing system malfunctions, and developing control system applications for various machinery using technologies such as PLCs, HMIs, DCSs, SCADA, and CNC systems.
Responsibilities
- Provide consultation and support for strategic planning aspects of computer hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
- Conduct business analytical studies to integrate business needs into system-wide development plans.
- Analyze user processes and requirements to identify potential improvements.
- Develop and provide training to end users on assigned systems.
- Perform reviews and audits of work performed by the organization.
- Develop and revise procedures in accordance with current regulatory and administrative requirements.
- Communicate technical information, concepts, and ideas verbally and in writing.
- Implement, test, troubleshoot, and improve electronic automation and controls systems in operations processes.
- Check control system schematics and specifications and diagnose system malfunctions using software and testing equipment.
- Develop and define control system applications for various machinery and equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience; a degree is highly preferred.
- IT Consultant: 4+ years of experience applying security controls to assets at a generation site.
- IT Consultant, Sr: 6+ years of experience (or 5 years with an advanced degree) applying security controls to assets at a generation site.
- Experience with the operation or engineering of a generation unit.
- Experience with control systems security, security architecture, network security engineering, or secure network development with electric power utilities.
- Experience with PI, OPC & Modbus Interfaces.
- Experience in implementing security control policy and procedures.
- Knowledge of the operation of electric power and/or generation systems.
- Knowledge of system hardening, patch management, and configuration management.
- Knowledge of security controls testing, security audits, and security assessments.
- Knowledge of fraud and computer forensics.
- Knowledge and understanding of NIST controls.
