About the position

The Operations Accounting Manager/Manufacturing Controller is a pivotal role within our organization, responsible for providing comprehensive financial representation and support for our manufacturing facility located in Carlstadt, NJ. This position reports directly to the Director of Supply Chain Finance and encompasses a wide range of responsibilities that are critical to the financial health and operational efficiency of the plant. The successful candidate will engage in financial budgeting, forecasting, variance analyses, performance analyses, standard cost development, and inventory valuation. Additionally, the role involves coordinating data collection to support both local and corporate financial systems, as well as generating additional analyses and reports as required to assist financial and plant/supply chain management. In this role, the Operations Accounting Manager will ensure compliance with company policies and protocols, promptly notifying the Director of any deviations. The position requires collaboration with plant management to implement financial and performance measurement systems tailored to local needs while adhering to corporate policies. The manager will assist in developing objectives, goals, strategies, and measures, as well as personal performance objectives, which will be reviewed by the Senior Director of Planning & Analysis. Furthermore, the manager will prioritize plant opportunities for operational accounting efforts, initiating self-directed efforts or coordinating with others to capitalize on these opportunities. The role also involves providing coordination and direction for financial monitoring, reporting, analysis, and plant cost allocation, ensuring accurate and timely reflection of segment and consolidated performance. Effective communication between the plant and corporate offices is essential to support centralized financial functions. The manager will coordinate the integration of all information systems related to financial monitoring and reporting, providing direction and support to the plant in financial measurement and reporting processes. This includes developing plant cost information to support product and customer rationalization and implementing systems to manage and analyze data related to resource consumption and allocation. The Operations Accounting Manager will lead the development and use of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) within the Supply Chain, ensuring consistency between these indicators and resource consumption reflected in cost allocations. The role requires a proactive approach to institutionalizing costing and financial analysis concepts through training for plant management and staff. The manager will also perform ad hoc cost and economic analyses as needed and propose new technologies for financial monitoring and performance analysis. Maintaining awareness of corporate strategies, costing developments, and reporting practices is crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Assure plant compliance with Company and related policies and protocols, notifying the Director of any deviations.
  • Assist plant management in implementing financial and performance measurement systems in line with local needs and corporate policies.
  • Assist the Director, Supply Chain Finance in developing Objectives, Goals, Strategies, and Measures, as well as personal performance objectives.
  • Determine and prioritize plant opportunities for operational accounting efforts consistent with Group and local goals and strategies.
  • Provide coordination and direction for financial monitoring, reporting, analysis, and plant cost allocation.
  • Ensure effective information flow between the plant and corporate offices to support centralized financial functions.
  • Coordinate effective input, output, integration, and coordination of all information systems related to financial monitoring, reporting, and analysis.
  • Provide direction and support to the plant for financial monitoring, measurement, reporting, analysis, and projection.
  • Coordinate plant cost allocation systems that support financial measurement and reporting by channel, including Contribution Margin and EBIT.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of corporate procedures affecting plant financial operations.
  • Work with the Director, Supply Chain Finance on the definition and interpretation of policies and procedures.
  • Develop plant cost information to support product and customer rationalization.
  • Develop and implement systems to collect, manage, and analyze data related to resource consumption and allocation.
  • Provide financial leadership to Supply Chain personnel in the development and use of Key Performance Indicators.
  • Lead the local awareness, development, implementation, and utilization of Activity Accounting.
  • Help institutionalize costing and financial analysis concepts by providing training to plant management and staff.
  • Perform ad hoc cost and economic analyses as needed by Group and operating unit functions.
  • Propose application of new technologies for financial monitoring and performance analysis.
  • Maintain awareness of corporate strategies and current developments relating to costing and financial analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • At least three years of experience in accounting, preferably manufacturing accounting.
  • Record of effective self-direction.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including data integration in multi-platform environments.
  • Competent in Excel and have a working knowledge of Access.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with proven ability to apply them in complex problem-solving situations.
  • Strong desire for discovery, mentoring, and leadership.
  • Experience in SAP, CPI, TQM, logistics, and financial systems preferred.
  • Ability to translate complex application issues into manageable solutions.
  • Ability to champion multi-functional teams to successful issue resolution.
  • Positive attitude and ability to resolve conflicts within appropriate channels.
  • Self-motivated and a quick study.
  • Experience in business process analysis and/or operations research is a plus.
