About the position

Perdue Farms is seeking an Operations Accounting Manager to join our team in Bridgewater, VA. This role is pivotal in managing all accounting and reporting functions for the plant, ensuring that adequate controls are in place to protect company assets and enhance operational effectiveness. The Operations Accounting Manager will be responsible for ensuring relevant, timely, and accurate reporting of complex operations, while providing effective support for both operations and financial management. This position will also oversee the accounting team, which is tasked with planning, reporting, and providing financial decision support for the facility. The Operations Accounting Manager will maintain an effective system of internal controls, ensuring compliance with corporate standards and generally accepted accounting principles. This includes directing the processes of recording, reviewing, and reporting the plant's performance, with a strong focus on continuous improvement in terms of accuracy, timeliness, relevance, and cost efficiency. The role requires effective utilization of information processing technology and staff to deliver information to management efficiently. In addition, the Operations Accounting Manager will assist plant management in managing capital expenditures to optimize economic performance, product quality, and associate safety. This includes overseeing inventory and overall asset management, managing the accounting staff, and ensuring effective training, development, and coaching of team members. The manager will also coordinate and direct the operations' cost and financial issues on behalf of the plant management team, participate in financial performance reporting, and manage the plant production costing process. Special projects may also be assigned by the Controller, Operations VP, and Director of Operations, along with responsibilities related to monthly closing and annual capital/operating budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an effective system of internal controls, ensuring compliance with Corporate and generally accepted standards of accounting and reporting.
  • Direct the processes of recording, reviewing, and reporting the plant's performance, focusing on continuous improvement in accuracy, timeliness, relevance, and cost.
  • Utilize information processing technology and staff to deliver information to management efficiently.
  • Assist plant management in managing capital expenditures to optimize economic performance, product quality, and associate safety.
  • Oversee inventory and overall asset management.
  • Manage the accounting staff and ensure effective utilization of human resources.
  • Ensure effective training, development, and coaching of accounting team members.
  • Coordinate/direct the operations' cost/financial issues on behalf of the plant management team.
  • Participate and report financial performance and other ad-hoc business case analysis to the PTM.
  • Manage the plant production costing process; prepare and review all new product costing requests with the plant management team.
  • Perform special projects as directed by the Controller, Operations VP, and Director of Operations.
  • Review monthly closing responsibilities and related cost/analytical and auditing responsibilities.
  • Support activities related to annual capital/operating budgets, labor standards, key initiative reporting, operations performance forecast, scorecard comments, capital project review and approval, and Agri Stats analysis and review.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance roles.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent computer skills in Excel, Access, and Word.
  • Extensive manufacturing costing experience and process cost accounting knowledge.
  • Ability to work in a plant environment and understand product flow.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA, CPA, or CMA preferred.
  • Experience in the poultry industry.
