About the position

As an Operations Analyst at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, you will play a crucial role in analyzing proposed policies, procedures, forms, and reports under general supervision. Your primary responsibility will be to recommend operational improvements through standardization, simplification, and discontinuance of processes. You will also be tasked with reviewing organizational functions and structures to identify and eliminate overlapping or duplicative efforts. In addition, you may provide security administration for applications supported by your area, contingent upon receiving the appropriate written and approved requests. This full-time position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, typically from Monday to Friday, and is based at our office located at 4101 Percival Road in Columbia, SC. Once you complete your training and meet performance standards, there may be opportunities for remote or flexible work arrangements. Some travel may be required as part of your duties. In this role, you will evaluate existing procedures and processes to make informed recommendations for improvement. You will monitor reports to assess the impact of performance on key measures and provide analyses of internal performance metrics for various projects. Your responsibilities will also include assisting in the implementation and maintenance of systems or processes, developing and maintaining written procedures, conducting workflow audits, and providing training for new employees. You will generate data to prepare reports, maintain databases, and ensure the accuracy of records affecting report quality. Additionally, you will maintain close contact with management to provide updates on issues and projects, and may serve as a liaison between your department and other internal or external groups.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate existing procedures and processes to make recommendations for improvement.
  • Monitor reports to assess the impact of performance on key measures.
  • Provide reports and/or analyses of internal performance metrics for various projects.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of systems or processes, including testing.
  • Manage and relay the purpose, scope, and status of each implementation to management.
  • Develop and maintain written procedures within departmental and organizational standards.
  • Document and streamline automated procedures into end-user training material.
  • Conduct workflow and process audits of staff and reference materials as needed.
  • Research and document errors, progress, performance, or other metrics to assess efficiency.
  • Provide training for new employees and ongoing training as workflow efficiencies are revised.
  • Generate data to prepare reports and maintain databases and/or requests reports on specific statistics to analyze trends.
  • Maintain area reports and quality check records affecting accuracy of reports by researching and testing processes and methods.
  • Maintain close contact with management to provide updates on any issues/projects.
  • Complete special projects and inform management of any trends or changes in statistical reports.
  • Serve as a liaison between the department and other internal/external groups.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree OR 4 years of job-related work experience OR An Associate's Degree AND 2 years of job-related work experience.
  • 2 years of data analysis or related operations experience.
  • Strong communication, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of acceptable internal standards and methodologies.
  • Strong analysis skills.
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to provide support in developing and implementing process improvements.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Business Information Systems, Healthcare, or other job-related field.
  • 2 years of healthcare or insurance data analysis experience.
  • Claims processing experience.
  • DB2 skills.
