About the position

The Operations and Events Coordinator at the University of Minnesota will play a pivotal role in organizing and executing the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence (MCAE)'s signature campus-wide events, such as the Kick Off and the Celebration of Achievement. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to envision, plan, and implement holistic support strategies, Living Learning Communities programming, and recruitment events. The Coordinator will also supervise student staff and manage communications and front operations in consultation with the Director. This full-time position is a 100%, 12-month, annually renewable appointment within the academic professional personnel series. The Coordinator will lead the planning and coordination of the MCAE undergraduate student staff hiring process, oversee the MCAE Student Internship program, and manage the annual nominations process for student awards and scholarships. Additionally, the Coordinator will serve as the primary staff lead for MCAE's communications, including managing social media platforms and updating the MCAE website. In terms of event management, the Coordinator will be responsible for all logistical aspects of MCAE's annual events, including managing purchases, contracts, and space reservations, as well as coordinating student staff recruitment and training. The role also involves building and maintaining relationships with campus partners for collaborative programming and serving as an ambassador for MCAE to various constituents. The Coordinator will support the development and implementation of Living Learning Community programming and hold one-on-one holistic support meetings with students. This position requires flexibility, as evening and weekend work may be necessary to support events and programming.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and coordination of MCAE undergraduate student staff hiring process.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the MCAE Student Internship program.
  • Supervise MCAE Interns, including interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating.
  • Coordinate annual nominations process for student awards and scholarships.
  • Serve as primary staff lead of MCAE newsletter and all social media platforms.
  • Establish regular and strategic communications timelines to promote MCAE events.
  • Update MCAE website and other forms of media as needed.
  • Manage MCAE space and coordinate staffing needs for tabling events.
  • Manage Central email accounts and Google Shared Drive for MCAE.
  • Maintain office supply stock and subscriptions for MCAE.
  • Provide coverage of MCAE front desk space each week.
  • Serve as the primary staff lead for logistical aspects of MCAE's annual events.
  • Manage all related purchases, contracts, and space reservations for events.
  • Coordinate student staff recruitment, training, and development for events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with campus partners for collaborative programming.
  • Support the development and implementation of MCAE's Living Learning Community programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with at least 4 years of work experience in related areas of administration, event planning, and/or student support.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of creating strong academic support strategies for underrepresented, first generation, and marginalized students.
  • Understanding of equity and diversity as they intersect with student development and event planning.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Computer competency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters Degree in Higher Education or related field.
  • Three years of full-time experience working in a college or university academic setting.
  • Experience working with Canva, Mailchimp, and/or Qualtrics.
  • Experience supervising student staff.
