About the position

The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) / IC&E Technician at Tejas Power Generation is responsible for maintaining continuous monitoring of all plant systems, responding to alarms, executing plant shutdown and start-up procedures, and ensuring the facility meets its generating requirements while prioritizing safety and efficiency. This role involves maintaining and repairing instruments, control systems, and mechanical/electrical equipment, requiring a high level of skill in inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation, and removal of power plant equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Operate turbine generators and auxiliaries, including start-up and shutdown procedures.
  • Observe and record readings of required indicators and/or instruments for safe operation within prescribed limits.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all major equipment and systems, including emergency backup systems.
  • Maintain complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
  • Forecast, inventory, and reorder spare parts to ensure plant reliability.
  • Assist in physical inventories.
  • Participate in the administrative maintenance of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Inspect, repair, install, and remove various types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal systems, communication systems, and storage batteries.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and analysis on turbine control systems.
  • Safely operate necessary plant equipment, such as vehicles, cranes, hoists, welding and cutting equipment.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, wiring, and schematic diagrams.
  • Update station logs, including maintenance repairs and outage logs, time reports, material requisitions, etc.
  • Complete appropriate plant documents for requisitioning necessary plant parts, such as purchase order requests and work orders.
  • Complete other tasks as requested by the Plant Manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment, typically acquired through four years of high school.
  • Two or more years of work experience as a technician in a related industry is desirable.
  • Experience with operating and maintaining GE LM6000 gas turbines, including troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and adherence to safety and environmental standards in a power plant setting, is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of power plant IC&E systems and equipment, electrical principles, electrical safety, electrical test equipment.
  • Ability to understand schematics, electrical drawings, PI&Ds, ladder logic, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in operating turbine generators and auxiliary equipment, including start-up and shutdown procedures.
  • Previous mechanical or electrical experience is desired, with proficiency in performing preventive maintenance on major equipment and systems, including emergency backup systems.
  • Extensive experience in inspecting, repairing, installing, and removing various electrical components, including motors, generators, transformers, switches, and control equipment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent organizational skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license at all times.
