About the position

The Operations Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the store, ensuring that customers receive exceptional service while maintaining a well-organized and stocked environment. This position is designed for individuals who have a passion for retail and a desire to lead a team. The Operations Assistant Manager will work closely with the Store Manager to oversee store operations, including staff training, inventory management, and customer service. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in retail management, particularly in grocery or drug store settings, and will be responsible for fostering a positive shopping experience for customers. In this role, the Operations Assistant Manager will greet and assist customers, addressing their inquiries and concerns in a friendly and approachable manner. They will maintain a visible presence in the store, ensuring that the environment is clean and well-stocked. The Operations Assistant Manager will also supervise, train, and develop Store Associates, ensuring that all team members are well-versed in Family Dollar's operating practices and procedures. This position requires a hands-on approach, as the Operations Assistant Manager will assist in unloading merchandise, organizing stock, and transferring items from the stockroom to the sales floor. Additionally, the Operations Assistant Manager will support the Store Manager in various administrative tasks, including ordering merchandise, payroll management, scheduling, and cash register operations. They will also play a key role in loss prevention efforts, helping to safeguard the store's assets. The Operations Assistant Manager must be physically capable of lifting up to 40 lbs regularly and up to 55 lbs occasionally, as well as meeting the demands of frequent walking, standing, and other physical activities. This position may require assuming management responsibilities in the absence of the Store Manager and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and assists customers in a positive, approachable manner.
  • Answers questions and resolves customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Maintains a presence in the store by providing excellent customer service.
  • Ensures a clean, well-stocked store for customers.
  • Supervises, trains, and develops Store Associates on Family Dollar operating practices and procedures at the direction of the Store Manager.
  • Assists in unloading all merchandise from delivery truck and organizes merchandise.
  • Transfers merchandise from stockroom to store.
  • Assists Store Manager in ordering merchandise and record keeping, including payroll, scheduling, and cash register deposits and receipts.
  • Supports Store Manager in loss prevention efforts.
  • Assumes certain management responsibilities in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prefer store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environments.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 40 lbs and occasionally up to 55 lbs from floor level to above shoulder height.
  • Must be able to meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Candidates must pass drug screen and background check.
