About the position

Dollar Tree is seeking an Operations Assistant Manager to join our team in Winchester, VA. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about retail and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. As an Operations Assistant Manager, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Store Manager with all operational tasks within the store. Your primary focus will be on front-end and sales floor operations, ensuring that the store runs smoothly and efficiently. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the Store Manager to assist in the hiring, training, and development of store associates, fostering a positive and productive work environment. In this role, you will be responsible for performing various store functions and day-to-day activities as directed by the Store Manager. This includes executing all opening and closing procedures in the absence of the Store Manager, protecting and securing company assets, and adhering to all policies and procedures, including safety guidelines. You will maintain a professional and friendly atmosphere for customers and staff alike, ensuring that all areas of the store, including the stockroom and sales floor, meet company standards. As the Operations Assistant Manager, you will also have direct supervisory responsibility for all hourly associates when the Store Manager is not present. You will process all corporate directives, assist with the receipt and return of merchandise, and ensure proper staffing coverage on a daily basis. Your role will also involve managing cashiering activities, promotional effectiveness of store displays, and maintaining the checkout area to maximize impulse sales. Additionally, you will assist in creating weekly schedules and managing store supplies and expenses, contributing to the overall success of the store.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with all store functions and day-to-day store activities as directed by the Store Manager
  • Perform all opening and closing procedures in the absence of the Store Manager
  • Assist the Store Manager in protecting and securing all company assets, including store cash
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures including safety guidelines
  • Maintain a professional and friendly environment with customers, subordinates and supervisors
  • Maintain all areas of the store, including the stockroom and sales floor, to company standards to include recovery
  • Direct supervisory responsibility for all hourly Associates when the Store Manager is not on the premises
  • Process all SSC Corporate directives including Pull and Hold/Destroy, Task Compliance, Key Survey information requests and any additional communications related to store activities as delegated by the Store Manager
  • Assist the Store Manager on the receipt and return of DSD merchandise
  • Follow the VIP and DSD Policies and Procedures
  • Ensure proper staffing coverage on a daily basis
  • Ensure that the sales floor is sales effective on a daily basis
  • Manage cashiering activities to ensure all company cash handling practices & guidelines are followed at all times by all Associates
  • Assist in the management of promotional effectiveness of store-front fixtures and displays
  • Manage sales effectiveness of seasonal areas in the store
  • Coordinate appropriate signage utilized in the store
  • Process damaged merchandise on a daily basis
  • Assist Store Manager with creation of weekly schedules
  • Manage store supplies and expense control
  • Assist with merchandising and maintaining the checkout area to maximize impulse sales
  • Ensure coolers and store-front program racks/displays are refilled daily.

Requirements

  • Experience in retail management or supervisory role
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures and policies
  • Familiarity with inventory management and merchandising techniques
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
