About the position

The Operations Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting plant operations by managing day-to-day processes related to water processing, culture harvest, waste management, and equipment maintenance. This position involves working with a team to cultivate large-scale algal cultures and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards. The Operations Assistant will also be responsible for process improvements and collaborating with R&D and Operations teams to enhance plant performance.

Responsibilities

  • Authoring operational checklists and SOPs for production of algal products
  • Following and updating GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) procedures
  • Operating production field processes and separations processes
  • Operating and troubleshooting pumps, valves, and machinery to create algal products
  • Coordinating photobioreactor and associated systems deployment and service
  • Reviewing data entry
  • Interpreting and reporting data
  • Submitting maintenance requests
  • Working shifts (including overnight), weekends and holidays
  • Planning for product development and quality assurance metrics
  • Communicating parameters that are out of norm or out of spec to production management
  • Ensuring adherence to safety policies
  • Participating in on-call responsibilities
  • Participating on design and manufacturing teams to enable novel solutions to technical challenges
  • Providing engineering support to maintain daily operation of the entire plant
  • Maintaining a Preventative Maintenance system
  • Identifying opportunities for efficiency, productivity, and reliability improvements
  • Developing and managing vendor relationships for critical manufacturing systems

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • Ability to work shift work
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently, but integrate well with small working groups
  • Ability to operate pumps and valves
  • Familiar with general industrial hygiene practices and safety practices
  • Versed with personal computers and Microsoft office applications
  • Fluent in written or spoken English
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Ability to respect the confidential nature of the work and use discretion at all times
