About the position

The Operations Coordinator at Fordham University plays a vital role in supporting the Department of Biological Sciences by managing various clerical and operational tasks. This position is essential for maintaining the efficiency of research and teaching activities, ensuring safety in the office environment, and providing assistance to faculty and students. The coordinator will work closely with the Senior Departmental Administrator and is responsible for a range of duties from office management to logistical support.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as office receptionist by answering and directing phone calls, greeting and helping students and other visitors.
  • Responsible for daily office opening and closing, ensuring that the office is secured when closed for business.
  • Receive, log, and distribute incoming packages.
  • Place daily orders for undergraduate teaching labs.
  • Assist with check requests and invoices.
  • Sort incoming mail.
  • Assist faculty and instructional staff with the use of Scantron.
  • Maintain office equipment such as photocopiers.
  • Help maintain stockroom, seminar, and office supplies inventory and organize supply orders as needed.
  • Set up refreshments before and clean up after the weekly colloquium.
  • Assist the department administrator and department chair with tasks as needed.
  • Perform special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clerical experience.
  • General computer experience, including the ability to work with documents and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact successfully with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent judgment, diplomacy, and discretion necessary in handling confidential and sensitive materials.
  • Good problem-solving abilities and ability to deal with emergencies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate Degree or higher.
