About the position

The Operations Coordinator (OC) at Mid-Ship Logistics is responsible for orchestrating and overseeing daily barge fleet operations. This role involves tracking and reporting all inbound and outbound movements, researching barge position information, and determining load/unloading schedules. The OC plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient inland barge movements and effective communication with shippers and terminal locations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage inland barge movements of industrial dry bulk, liquid bulk chemicals, steel, and breakbulk cargoes.
  • Position barges according to the shippers' respective needs and provide the ships' ETA.
  • Track barges along the river system and communicate their positions regularly to shippers and client terminal locations.
  • Coordinate tow schedules and track loading and unloading activities; manage midstream-in/midstream-out operations.
  • Release barges back to barge lines upon completion of operations.
  • Audit and vet barge freight, demurrage, and process all related invoices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Transportation or Logistics.
  • Work experience in transportation or a related field; familiarity with basic logistics, ship, barge, and terminal operations.
  • Strong computer skills required: Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Experience with ERP systems (example AX, SAP) is useful.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently on multiple issues.
  • Results-oriented with a high sense of urgency.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise creativity.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to enter and report data accurately.
  • Ability to work after normal business hours when necessary.
