About the position

The Operations Coordinator (OC) at Watco is responsible for orchestrating and overseeing daily barge fleet operations, ensuring efficient tracking and reporting of all inbound and outbound movements. This role involves planning, coordinating, and managing inland barge movements for various cargo types, while also maintaining communication with shippers and client terminal locations. The OC plays a crucial role in optimizing logistics operations and ensuring timely delivery of services.

Responsibilities

  • Orchestrate and oversee daily barge fleet operations.
  • Track and report all inbound/outbound movements of barges.
  • Research barge position information and determine load/unloading schedules.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage inland barge movements of various cargo types.
  • Position barges according to shippers' needs and provide estimated time of arrival (ETA).
  • Track barges along the river system and communicate their positions to shippers and terminal locations.
  • Coordinate tow schedules and track loading/unloading activities.
  • Release barges back to barge lines upon completion of operations.
  • Audit and vet barge freight and demurrage, processing all related invoices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Transportation or Logistics.
  • Work experience in transportation or a related field, familiar with basic logistics, ship, barge, and terminal operations.
  • Strong computer skills required: Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., AX, SAP) is useful.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently on multiple issues.
  • Results-oriented with a high sense of urgency.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise creativity.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to enter and report data accurately.
  • Ability to work after normal business hours when necessary.
