About the position

Penske Truck Leasing is seeking highly motivated and qualified applicants for the position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). This unique role involves the delivery and return of vehicles to various Penske locations and customers. The primary responsibility includes moving box trucks up to 26 feet, and for those with a CDL Class A license, it will also involve the movement of tractors and trailers. Additionally, this position may require assisting the service department by delivering parts and equipment as needed. This is a casual, on-call part-time truck driving job, ideal for licensed CDL Class B or CDL Class A drivers who are looking for supplemental income. The work hours can vary significantly, ranging from 0 to 25 hours a week, depending on business needs. The position is based at the Penske facility located at 1711 Wicomico Street, Baltimore, MD 21230, and requires adherence to safety procedures while driving to various destinations. The role demands a commitment to safety, as drivers must check vehicles to ensure that all mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is functioning properly. In addition, drivers are responsible for obtaining receipts or signatures for delivered goods and may need to collect payments for services when required. Reporting any vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damages is also a critical part of the job. Other projects and tasks may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Responsibilities

• Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to destination of Penske location or customer locations
• Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order, reporting any issues to the location manager
• Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles
• Complete other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

• 2 years of driving experience required
• 2 years of a clean DMV motor vehicle record required
• CDL Class B license required
• CDL Class A license preferred
• Ability to read and follow written instructions is required
• Ability to work independently, with customer service skills, organizational skills, and a positive attitude
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
• Willingness to travel as necessary and work the required schedule
• Ability to complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation, and drug screening
