About The Position
The Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Coordinator at South Shore Health is responsible for overseeing the workflow of the department, ensuring efficiency in operations, and maintaining high standards of quality assurance. This full-time position requires the coordinator to manage the orientation and training of new technicians, as well as provide ongoing education in all areas of the SPD, including equipment handling, decontamination processes, instrument assembly, high-level disinfection, sterilization, and cart assembly. The coordinator will work under the guidance of the CPD Manager and is expected to practice and enforce compliance with Universal Precautions during disinfection and sterilization processes. In addition to managing daily operations, the SPD Coordinator will participate in quality assurance and performance improvement programs, ensuring that all sterilization processes are documented accurately and that equipment is functioning effectively. The role involves supervising staff, coordinating task assignments, and resolving any technical or operational issues that arise. The coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records, conducting staff meetings, and fostering open communication within the team to promote effective teamwork and motivation. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, as the coordinator will need to identify areas for improvement and communicate findings to the manager. The coordinator will also assist in ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment, ensuring timely delivery to the appropriate departments. Embracing technology is essential, as the coordinator will utilize electronic systems for tracking and managing inventory, as well as for scheduling and reporting purposes. Safety awareness is a critical component of this role, as the coordinator must ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and foster a culture of safety within the department.
