About the position

SGS is an inspection company whose core business is the inspection of bulk liquid cargoes and sampling and testing of same for its customers in the Oil, Gas and Chemical industry. The Operations Coordinator position is responsible for the overall management and direction of the daily inspection workload and business operations. This includes monitoring and scheduling all inspectors in support of daily business operations and customers. The role requires the exercise of independent judgment and decision-making on matters of significant importance to our customers, which is critical for maintaining operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. In this position, you will provide guidance and feedback to the inspection staff within the branch on a daily basis. You may also give input on disciplinary actions and other employee decisions for field staff. A key part of your role will involve liaising with the laboratory and clients, managing the operating files of the company, and inputting critical data into customer databases of major oil, gas, and chemical companies. This requires a high level of technical knowledge specific to the oil, gas, and chemical industry. You will coordinate directly with customers, refineries, and shipping agencies to manage and make independent technical decisions on critical marine vessel logistics that represent millions of dollars of product. Additionally, you will be involved in scheduling field staff accordingly, reviewing and approving time logs submitted by inspectors, and ensuring compliance with company procedures for safety, field operations, and reporting. Regular client visits are required, along with coordination with the sales group on client visits. You will also use your technical knowledge to direct field work, including field audits and implementing new client procedures, while mentoring field employees. Other duties may be assigned by management, and you will act as the branch manager on duty during specified hours as required by the customer.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and feedback to the inspection staff within the Branch on a daily basis.

  • Involved in scheduling field staff accordingly.
  • Review and approve time logs submitted by inspectors.
  • Manage daily and monthly calibration records for the Branch.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures for Safety, Field Operations, and Reporting.
  • Understand and comply with individual Client Instructions and requirements.
  • Conduct regular client visits and coordinate with the sales group on client visits.
  • Direct field work as required, including field audits and implementing new client procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Three (3) years of industry-related coordination experience (Required)
  • Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field (Preferred)
  • Five (5) years of industry-related coordination experience (Preferred)
  • High level of accuracy with special attention to details (Required)
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills (verbal and written) (Required)
  • Dependable and reliable individual whose daily presence adds to the success of the Department (Required)
  • Ability to follow instructions independently with little or no supervision (Required)
  • Ability to lift bulky items weighing up to 50 pounds; climb, bend, reach without restriction (Required)
