About the position

Suffolk Construction Company, Inc. is seeking an Operations Portfolio Data Analyst to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial for enhancing project performance monitoring across all stages of our portfolio and individual projects. The Operations Portfolio Data Analyst will work closely with our data and operational excellence teams to analyze trends, report on portfolio and project health, and drive data-driven decisions in collaboration with leadership. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of construction processes and demonstrate strong analytical skills. We are looking for someone who is intellectually curious, a critical thinker, and motivated by uncovering truths that drive impact. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently while managing multiple ongoing analyses are essential for success in this role. In this position, you will continually monitor operational dashboards, identifying trends and patterns that can inform decision-making. You will track the performance of business processes, pinpointing areas for improvement or risk. Regular reporting on operational trends, particularly at the intersection of safety, financial forecasting, and operational performance, will be a key responsibility. You will convene forums with peers to review trends and provide actionable intelligence to project teams, actively engaging with regional and national leadership to provide insights and escalate issues as necessary. Collaboration across teams will be vital to enhance data understanding and application, and you will work with data engineering and visualization teams to improve data quality, accuracy, and reliability. Over time, you will develop deep subject matter expertise on Operations data, including all elements of the Project Management Dashboard, and generate insights through analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Continually monitor operational dashboards with a keen eye toward identifying trends and patterns.
  • Monitor and track the performance of business processes and identify areas of improvement or risk.
  • Regularly report out on trends within the operations with particular focus on the intersection of safety, financial forecasting, and operational performance.
  • Convene forums with peers to review trends and provide actionable intelligence to project teams.
  • Actively engage with regional and national leadership, providing actionable insights and escalating issues as needed.
  • Collaborate across teams to enhance data understanding and application.
  • Work with data engineering and visualization teams towards enhancing data quality, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Develop deep subject matter expertise on Operations data, including all elements on the Project Management Dashboard; generate insights through analytics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, or significant amounts of related coursework.
  • At least 2 years of experience in construction operations, preferably with exposure to financial aspects of large projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Independent learner with a proactive approach to mastering new tools and processes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; adept at simplifying complex data.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive, results-oriented mindset with strong initiative.
