About the position

The Operations Director for the Returns Center at Target in Upper Marlboro, MD, is a pivotal role that focuses on leading a functional area business unit within the Supply Chain. In this role, you will lead with a focus on safety and operational standards, ensuring that your teams achieve established benchmarks for service, quality, accuracy, and productivity. You will utilize key performance metrics, Lean Six Sigma methodologies, and GEMBA walks to assess operational performance and identify areas for improvement. Your leadership will empower your teams to innovate and take calculated risks, creating an environment where they can thrive and perform at their best. As an Operations Director, you will be expected to engage with your team regularly, understanding their unique strengths and motivating them to reach their full potential. Your ability to plan and execute will be crucial as you set priorities and allocate resources effectively. Open communication will be essential in presenting the overall vision and ensuring that all team members are aligned with the goals and expectations. You will also be responsible for spending time on the floor, observing operations, and interacting with team members to foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Returns Center operations with a focus on safety and continuous improvement.
  • Foster a safety-first culture through awareness, training, and accountability.
  • Guide operational leaders to achieve established standards of service, quality, accuracy, and productivity.
  • Utilize key metrics, Lean Six Sigma, and GEMBA walks to assess performance and identify improvement areas.
  • Motivate and inspire teams by understanding their unique strengths and providing constructive feedback.
  • Set individual and team priorities, proactively structuring resources to meet operational goals.
  • Communicate effectively to present the big picture and ensure alignment across teams.
  • Engage with team members on the floor to observe operations and provide support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, Technology, Operations, or a related field, or a minimum of 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or distribution environment.
  • Applicable management/supervisory experience or 18-36 months as an Operations Manager.
  • Experience with performance metrics and process improvement methodologies.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle changing priorities and exercise good judgment in stressful situations.
  • Proven ability to motivate others and manage conflicts effectively.
  • Experience with the full staffing lifecycle, including interviewing, hiring, performance management, promotions, and terminations.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of hours, including overnight, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to access all areas of the Distribution Center, including mezzanine platforms.
