About the position

The Operations Director at Amprius will play a pivotal role in developing and managing the business relationships with our contract manufacturing (CM) partners. This position requires a strategic mindset to oversee and enhance the collaboration between Amprius and its CM partners. The Operations Director will be responsible for negotiating commercial agreements and managing costs associated with manufacturing services. This includes supervising manufacturing activities at CM sites, coordinating battery orders and manufacturing schedules, and ensuring that the collaboration between CM and relevant teams is optimized. The role also involves developing long-term strategic partnerships with CM partners to ensure the successful delivery of products. In this capacity, the Operations Director will work closely with stakeholders to define requirements and acceptance criteria, plan for technical feasibility, and allocate resources effectively. The position requires establishing and coordinating relationships between the ODM team and CM partners, managing communication regarding technical designs, and performing risk management and mitigation. The Operations Director will also be responsible for ensuring product testing and quality assurance, implementing and managing feedback loops, and ultimately driving and owning product delivery. This role is critical to the success of Amprius as it seeks to maintain its position as a leader in the lithium-ion battery industry. The Operations Director will need to possess a strong understanding of both the U.S. and Chinese markets, as well as the ability to travel internationally to foster these important relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage business relationships with contract manufacturing partners.
  • Negotiate commercial agreements and manage costs associated with manufacturing services.
  • Supervise manufacturing activities at CM sites and coordinate battery orders and manufacturing schedules.
  • Optimize collaboration between CM and relevant teams.
  • Develop long-term strategic partnerships with CM partners.
  • Work with stakeholders on requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Plan technical feasibility and resource allocation, managing time, scope, and costs.
  • Establish and coordinate relationships between the ODM team and CM partners.
  • Manage communication regarding technical designs of the product between stakeholders.
  • Perform risk management and mitigation.
  • Ensure product testing and quality assurance.

  • Drive and own product delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Material/Manufacturing or related engineering field.
  • 7+ years of experience in operations management or related field.
  • Strong understanding and experience working in China and the U.S.
  • Fluent in Chinese language required.
  • Technical knowledge and background in lithium-ion battery design.
  • Experience in battery manufacturing and program management.
  • Experience in supplier selection, contract negotiations, and supply-base management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify complex problems and evaluate options.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to negotiate and persuade.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% internationally and domestically.
