About the position

The Operations Engineer position at Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) is a critical role responsible for the maintenance and support of engineering data for the Control Center's distribution and transmission system operational models. This position plays a vital part in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the electrical distribution system, particularly during routine and emergency operations. The engineer will be tasked with maintaining engineering data, implementing updates to the Control Center Engineering Database, and supporting various engineering and GIS aspects of daily operations. This includes performing engineering analyses for load allocation and forecasting, as well as supporting operators in modeling and analysis for both planned and emergency operational decisions. In addition to these responsibilities, the Operations Engineer will identify operational limitations and communicate these to engineering planning for project development. The role also involves supporting operators during storm responses, monitoring outage situations, and performing emergency switching analysis. The engineer will participate in post-event analyses with various operational teams and provide project management for specific Control Center projects, including the implementation of dashboards and grid automation projects. The position requires collaboration with other engineers to maintain distribution facilities and improve system reliability. The engineer will serve as a liaison to external customers, providing updates on job and outage statuses, investigating outages, and addressing power quality issues. The role demands a high level of professionalism and clear communication with both internal customers and members, ensuring that all interactions are effective and informative. Additionally, the engineer must maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information and stay updated on technological advancements relevant to the field.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain engineering data for the Distribution / Transmission System Operational Models
  • Research and implement updates to the Control Center Engineering Database using equipment reports from various departments
  • Support engineering and GIS aspects of the daily model import process and Distribution EMS, OMS and DMS model maintenance
  • Perform engineering analysis for load allocation and load forecasting to maintain seasonally adjusted system models
  • Support operators in modeling and analysis for planned switching and emergency operational decisions using the System Operational Models
  • Identify operational limitations and communicate to engineering planning for project development
  • Support operators in storm response through monitoring outage situations and performing emergency switching analysis
  • Participate in post-event analysis with Operations Managers and other departments
  • Provide project management for specific Control Center projects including dashboards and grid automation
  • Perform feeder reliability Root Cause Analysis and Distribution Fault Anticipation analysis
  • Collaborate with other engineers to maintain distribution facilities and improve reliability
  • Serve as a liaison to external customers regarding job and outage status updates
  • Contribute engineering analyses for contingency planning and response efforts for system outages
  • Display professional communication with internal customers and members, both verbal and written

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas OR
  • Eight years of directly related work experience OR
  • Six years of related work experience and a Post Graduate Engineering degree in a related discipline
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
