About the position

The Operations Engineer II, Mission Planner role at Iridium Satellite LLC involves monitoring and controlling ground systems in a multi-satellite operations environment. The position requires working 12-hour shifts and is focused on scheduling satellite and ground resources to meet mission objectives. The ideal candidate will be passionate about engineering and space systems, contributing to one of the most advanced satellite constellations in the world.

Responsibilities

• Assist in scheduling all satellite and ground resources to accomplish mission objectives.
• Perform activity deconfliction, resource allocation, and determine optimal load balancing for network traffic.
• Create, validate, and distribute necessary products for the network including schedules and routing almanacs.
• Collaborate with other teams to incorporate and deconflict maintenance events and special scheduling tasks.
• Develop and maintain Mission Planning procedures.
• Continuously seek improvements for tools and processes for streamlined operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• General experience working with satellites or in the space field.
• Proficient with standard Microsoft Office/engineering tools (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work in a high-paced operational environment providing off-hours support.
• Strong communication skills to present information and ideas clearly.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and self-correct mistakes.

Nice-to-haves

• General knowledge of working in a Linux operating system.
• Understanding of mission planning and satellite operations.
• Familiarity with software development and programming skills (Python, Perl, and/or C++).
