About the position

The Operations Foreman is responsible for overseeing the event crew, part-time staff, and subcontract labor in the preparation, maintenance, and cleaning of the facility for events. This role involves a high degree of physical exertion and requires the individual to act as a shift supervisor, ensuring that all operational tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and participate in all aspects of the conversion process for events.
  • Set up and tear down flooring, portable chairs, operable walls, barricades, staging, tables, and other furnishings and equipment.
  • Ensure day-to-day operations of the facility are met, including loading/unloading delivery trucks and cleaning the parking lot.
  • Direct and assist staff with pre/post event cleaning and janitorial tasks.
  • Prepare work schedules for part-time operations staff and submit to the Director of Operations for approval.
  • Train new hires and part-time employees in the proper use of equipment and facility policies.
  • Inspect the completion of all assigned tasks to guarantee specifications are met.
  • Monitor clock ins/outs and assigned breaks, and approve time cards when warranted.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance tasks such as painting and replacing filters.
  • Assist engineers in installation of event electrical and AV needs.
  • Participate in life safety and emergency programs for safe event execution.
  • Report irregularities, discrepancies, and safety concerns promptly to the supervisor.
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two (2) years full-time experience at a convention center or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures related to event set-up and conversions.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients and employees.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and produce accurate results.
  • Proficient in operating a personal computer and standard office equipment.
  • Adherence to laws, codes, ordinances, and safety precautions.
  • Flexibility to adjust to situations as they occur.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, move, and climb as required for the job.

Nice-to-haves

  • Licenses, certificates, or training required by local, state, or national authorities for equipment operation.
  • Valid motor vehicle license and insurance to operate a vehicle in the United States.
