Operations Forester

About the position

J.M. Huber Corporation is seeking a candidate to develop and implement district-specific operation plans in accordance with the Forest Management Plan & Guidelines. The role involves administering timber harvesting, silviculture, and roads programs to meet district goals, as well as developing contract specifications and overseeing contract compliance for forest operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the operations team to understand available wood markets and ensure timely wood delivery to maximize returns. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to improve business practices and share successes with the team, collaborating with management to meet or exceed objectives.

Responsibilities

• Develop rolling five-year harvest, silvicultural, and road plan.
• Prepare annual operating plan and budget (OP B).
• Reforecast operating plan monthly.
• Participate in the development of wood delivery schedule with markets.
• Develop site-specific silvicultural treatment and harvest prescriptions.
• Coordinate with Operations Manager to manage wildlife and ecosystem values appropriately.
• Negotiate contract logging rates and road construction contracts to secure quality independent contractors.
• Ensure wood deliveries meet customer specifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Forestry or Environmental Science.
• Understanding of stand dynamics for scheduling harvests.
• Experience with GIS systems for layout of harvesting and silvicultural activities.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
• Self-motivated with strong computer skills in GIS, GPS, word processing, and spreadsheets.
• Knowledge of timber inventory and management plan development.
• Familiarity with silviculture and harvesting technology.
• Experience in road building and maintenance.
