About the position

Valiant Integrated Services is seeking an Operations in the Information Environment (OIE) / Fires and Effects Analyst Trainer to join our team in Suffolk, Virginia. This role is critical in supporting the Joint Staff J7, Joint Training, Deployable Training Division (DTD) by providing a continuum of individual, staff, and collective joint training aimed at enhancing the operational effectiveness of the current and future joint force. The selected candidate will be responsible for delivering observation, training, and feedback to Joint Force Commanders and their staffs during joint and multi-national training exercises and staff assist visits (SAVs). This position requires a deep understanding of how information is synchronized across various warfighting functions and domains, and how it integrates into both lethal and non-lethal fires and the targeting cycle. As an OIE subject matter expert, the trainer will integrate into the DTD's Fires and Effects Section, which includes military Observer Trainers (OTs) and contractor Analyst Trainers (ATs). The role involves mentoring and supporting new OTs, participating in Deployable Training Teams (DTTs), and providing critical feedback during exercises. The trainer will also conduct cross-functional analysis of information gathered from joint exercises to develop lessons learned and best practices, ensuring that strategic thought and direction are aligned with operational planning. The position demands extensive travel, including to hazardous duty areas, and requires the ability to conduct trend analysis, improve battle rhythms, and develop comprehensive after-action reviews. The trainer will also be involved in the development of educational seminars for senior leaders, contributing to the National Defense University's Senior Leader Education Program. This role is essential for fostering a well-prepared and strategically aligned joint force capable of responding to complex operational challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an OIE subject matter expert and trainer in joint, multinational, interagency, and globally integrated exercises and operations.
  • Integrate into and provide functional continuity in the DTD's Fires and Effects Section.
  • Mentor, train, and support new Observer Trainers (OTs).
  • Participate as a member of Deployable Training Teams (DTTs) observing, training, and providing feedback to commanders during exercises.
  • Ascertain key command challenges at the operational and strategic levels of war.
  • Conduct cross-functional analysis of information gathered from joint exercises and training events.
  • Research national strategic documents and real-world operations to inform training.
  • Conduct trend analysis and improve battle rhythms.
  • Assist in the development of after-action reviews and reports.
  • Develop and facilitate seminars for the National Defense University's Senior Leader Education Program.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Joint Forces Staff College or Service equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of OIE and experience in fires and effects at the operational level.
  • Ability to write concisely at an executive level.
  • Must be willing to travel worldwide, including hazardous duty areas (up to 30% of the time).
  • U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Secret security clearance and ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Combatant Command, Joint Task Force, Division, Afloat staff, or Wing staff experience.
  • Understanding of the requirements for staffs to support the commander's decision cycle.
  • Understanding of the Joint Planning Process (JPP).
  • Experience with the preparation and conduct of seminars or study groups for flag officers.
  • Ability to write and prepare operational orders and plans.
  • Experience in compiling and presenting lessons learned and after-action review material.
