About the position

The Operations Integration Engineer at BWX Technologies will play a crucial role in the development of nuclear reactor technologies by providing operational insights to design engineers. This position focuses on ensuring that reactor systems are integrated effectively for safe, efficient, and reliable operations. The engineer will be involved in creating operating strategies, procedures, and training materials, while also supporting reactor simulator design and development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement reactor operating strategies.
  • Support the development of the reactor concept of operations from the reactor operator's perspective.
  • Lead the preparation of reactor operating procedures for various conditions and events.
  • Integrate and coordinate across disciplines for safe and efficient plant operations.
  • Support reactor simulator development and scenario evaluations.
  • Assist in developing control algorithms for operations.
  • Evaluate integrated plant responses to events and malfunctions.
  • Design plant control and monitoring interfaces, including Human Machine Interfaces.
  • Develop operations training material using reactor design materials.
  • Collaborate with designers for optimized system maintainability.
  • Participate in design reviews providing operational feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Physics.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in nuclear reactor operations.
  • Understanding of interrelationships among nuclear, mechanical, I&C, and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with reactor equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to lead through influence in matrixed organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE or DOD security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current or prior Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator license.
  • Experience with control schemes for nuclear plant operations.
  • Nuclear Operations Training experience.
  • Experience in Nuclear Reactor Simulator Design and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with high temperature gas reactor technologies.
  • Experience in fluid systems design.
  • Experience in I&C systems design.
  • Experience in electrical systems design.
  • Experience working with U.S. Government customers.
