About the position

The Operations Leader at The Toro Company is responsible for overseeing the manufacturing area to ensure the production of high-quality component parts in a timely and cost-effective manner. This role involves developing strategic plans aligned with corporate values, optimizing inventory, and maintaining superior employee and customer relations. The Operations Leader will implement lean manufacturing principles and ensure compliance with all regulations while leading a team to achieve operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Assures component parts are manufactured and available per the Master Schedule, conforming to specifications and produced cost-effectively.
  • Creates an environment that values employees, serves customers, and provides a fair return to owners.
  • Maintains excellent housekeeping, productivity, and work habits.
  • Ensures timely production of service parts to assure superior customer service.
  • Responsible for operator preventive maintenance needs of the facility.
  • Collaborates with other areas of the plant and company to optimize resources and achieve overall goals.
  • Manages the efficient handling and control of W.I.P. inventory.
  • Ensures capital equipment is fully utilized and maintains proper operator P.M. schedules.
  • Communicates company, divisional, and facility objectives and performance effectively.
  • Recommends and implements changes to improve quality, cost, product availability, inventory control, customer service, and employee relations.
  • Leads the application of Lean Manufacturing principles in the workplace.
  • Administers the labor agreement in conjunction with Human Resources.
  • Implements and executes business plans and strategies utilizing Lean principles.
  • Provides development and guidance to the workforce through coaching and relationship building.
  • Analyzes manufacturing area operating results and takes corrective action to meet performance levels.
  • Plans appropriate manpower during peak and non-peak operations.
  • Supports the development and implementation of the capital plan for capacity and quality improvement.
  • Designs and implements plant production systems, policies, and procedures to meet objectives.
  • Develops improved methods, layouts, equipment, techniques, and processes for competitive manufacturing.
  • Monitors compliance with safety, energy, hygiene, fire protection, environmental, and security programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or equivalent technical/professional training.
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in various manufacturing disciplines for Operation Leader I; 10+ years for Operation Leader II.
  • 4 years of management (staff) leadership experience for Operation Leader I; 7+ years for Operation Leader II.
  • Strong employee/customer relations skills.
  • Basic understanding of materials, engineering, human resources, quality, and accounting and their interrelations for Operation Leader I; expert understanding for Operation Leader II.

  • MBA preferred for Operation Leader II.
