About the position

The Operations Logistics Coordinator at Banner Health plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth internal movement of patients throughout the hospital's acute care facilities. This position is essential for coordinating communications between various departments and external agencies to facilitate patient transfers and bed assignments. The coordinator will be responsible for managing patient flow from the Emergency Department, procedural areas, and other facilities, ensuring that patients are placed in appropriate beds in a timely manner. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare operations, as well as excellent communication skills to interact effectively with doctors, nurses, and other stakeholders. In this position, the Operations Logistics Coordinator will work closely with the house supervisor to manage daily throughput and support the hospital's command center during surge situations. They will coordinate with internal personnel, such as staffing representatives and unit leaders, to manage patient movement and ensure that resources are allocated efficiently. The coordinator will also be responsible for responding to electronic orders for patient placements, entering bed assignments into the hospital's software systems, and maintaining accurate records of patient movements. The role demands a high level of organization and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. The coordinator will gather and verify information for patient assignments, resolve any inaccuracies, and escalate unresolved issues to nursing leadership. Additionally, they will be responsible for generating reports related to patient throughput and resource utilization, contributing to the overall patient experience at Banner Health. This position is based at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, which is the largest inpatient facility in the state, known for its cardiac and stroke services. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate communications between the hospital and external agencies for patient transfers.
  • Manage patient bed assignments for patients coming from various departments and facilities.
  • Act as a liaison between internal and external customers to ensure timely patient placement.
  • Respond to electronic orders for patient placement and enter bed assignments into the software system.
  • Verify and gather information for accurate patient assignments and resolve any inaccuracies.
  • Complete and distribute reports necessary for patient throughput management.
  • Support the house supervisor in managing daily throughput and surge situations.
  • Maintain excellent communication with impacted patient units and provide customer service to other staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare office or hospital operations setting.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, either through education or experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work under tight time constraints and manage multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and hospital EMR and bed placement software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate Degree preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
