About the position

Smurfit Westrock is seeking an Operations Maintenance Coordinator (OMC) for its Power & Recovery area in Evadale, TX. This position plays a crucial role in providing leadership and support to department managers and supervisors, ensuring the continuity of operating assets, achieving departmental objectives, and facilitating sound business decisions. The OMC is responsible for coordinating maintenance activities to maintain and ensure operational reliability while assisting in the cost control of the department's maintenance and operations budget. This role serves as a vital link between the production and maintenance departments, prioritizing work, managing backlogs, and planning/scheduling maintenance outages. The OMC will also handle special assignments related to major shutdowns, problem-solving projects, and capital projects. In this role, you will be accountable for maintaining an accident-free work environment by managing the department's safety work order backlog and ensuring a zero quarterly backlog. You will coordinate scheduled shutdowns and unscheduled outages, delivering operational excellence by managing daily work priorities, planning scheduled shutdowns, and reducing maintenance backlogs. The OMC is responsible for improving equipment reliability, craftsman efficiency, and minimizing costs while enforcing mill safety and environmental policies. You will also serve as a project originator for maintenance capital in the asset area and act as a technical resource for solving chronic and repeat failures in collaboration with reliability engineers. The position requires providing leadership, development, and training to team members, maintaining structured on-the-job training manuals, and promoting the Daily Management System (DMS) within the department. Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and support to department managers and supervisors.
  • Ensure continuity of operating assets and achieve departmental objectives.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities to maintain operational reliability.
  • Assist in cost control of the department's maintenance and operations budget.
  • Prioritize work, manage backlogs, and plan/schedule maintenance outages.
  • Handle special assignments related to major shutdowns and capital projects.
  • Manage the department's safety work order backlog and maintain a zero quarterly backlog.
  • Coordinate scheduled shutdowns and unscheduled outages, including lockout and tag out procedures.
  • Deliver operational excellence by managing daily work priorities and reducing maintenance backlogs.
  • Improve area equipment reliability and craftsman efficiency while minimizing costs.
  • Enforce mill safety and environmental policies and report any excursions as required.
  • Serve as project originator for maintenance capital in the asset area.
  • Act as a technical resource for solving chronic and repeat failures with reliability engineers.
  • Provide leadership, development, and training to team members.
  • Promote the Daily Management System (DMS) within the department.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree or equivalent operations or maintenance experience of a minimum of 8 years.
  • Fundamental understanding of mill processes affecting Paper Mill operations.
  • Knowledge of maintenance management principles including precision maintenance and preventative maintenance.
  • Strong analytical and diagnostic problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and SAP.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with proficiency in group and one-on-one communication.
