About the position

The Operations Maintenance Coordinator (OMC) at Smurfit Westrock is responsible for providing leadership and support to the Superintendent and production supervisors, ensuring the continuity of asset machine operations and achieving departmental objectives. The OMC acts as a crucial link between the Production and Maintenance departments, focusing on maintenance activities to ensure reliability and efficiency. This role involves prioritizing work, managing backlogs, and planning/scheduling shutdowns, with a strong emphasis on safety and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and support to the Superintendent and production supervisors.
  • Ensure continuity of asset machine operation and achieve departmental objectives.
  • Facilitate sound business decisions regarding maintenance activities.
  • Prioritize work, manage backlogs, and plan/schedule shutdowns.
  • Coordinate scheduled shutdowns and unscheduled outages, including lockout and tag out procedures.
  • Manage the department safety work order backlog and maintain a zero quarterly backlog.
  • Deliver operational excellence by coordinating activities between Production and Maintenance.
  • Keep planned work order backlog according to guidelines and utilize it to schedule daily and weekly work lists.
  • Screen and approve all work orders for asset area, ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Serve as project originator for maintenance capital in asset area and write FEP 1 documentation.
  • Plan the installation and startup of new equipment to minimize disruption to normal operations.
  • Develop and maintain detailed, structured on-the-job training manuals for all department tasks and jobs.
  • Guarantee customer quality expectations and support quality initiatives established by the mill.
  • Provide leadership, development, and training to team members.

Requirements

  • Good oral and written communication skills, with proficiency in group and one-on-one communication.
  • Fundamental understanding of mill processes affecting power and recovery operations, with preferred 5 years of operational experience.
  • Engineering degree or Bachelor degree with equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience with JDE, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Project.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control.
  • Knowledge of maintenance management principles, including precision maintenance, preventative maintenance, root cause failure analysis, and computer-based maintenance work systems.

  • Experience in troubleshooting and assisting other department Superintendents.
  • Desire to work collaboratively with maintenance disciplines as a team.
