About the position

The Welder/Fabricator position at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California involves learning and applying skills in welding and fabrication to support the maintenance and repair of water utility equipment. This semi-skilled role focuses on providing quality fabricated parts and ensuring equipment reliability through preventive and corrective maintenance activities. The position requires working with various metal components and assemblies, contributing to the operational core of water and power reliability.

Responsibilities

• Perform and assist in welding and fabrication tasks for water utility assemblies and equipment.
• Lay out and complete welded/fabricated equipment and parts for maintenance and repair.
• Support the operational core of water and power reliability through general welding practices.
• Maintain and improve a variety of equipment and fixtures composed of metal and metal alloys.
• Follow established trade, procedural, and regulatory code practices in all tasks.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience in welding/fabrication.
• Experience performing at least 3 different types of welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, or gas metal arc welding.
• Valid driver's license equivalent to California Class A, B, or C with appropriate endorsements.
• Forklift, manlift, and respirator certifications.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a recognized welder/fabricator trade training program within an industrial environment.
• Additional welding certifications.
