About the position
The Welder/Fabricator position at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California involves learning and applying skills in welding and fabrication to maintain and repair a variety of water utility equipment. This semi-skilled role focuses on ensuring the reliability of fabricated parts through preventive and corrective maintenance activities, contributing to the operational core of water and power reliability.
Responsibilities
- Perform and assist in welding and fabrication tasks for water utility assemblies and equipment.
- Lay out and complete welded/fabricated equipment and parts.
- Repair and maintain large gates, valves, pipelines, shafts, impellers, and housings.
- Build, maintain, and improve equipment and fixtures composed of metal and metal alloys.
- Support operational reliability through general welding and fabrication practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience in welding/fabrication.
- Experience performing at least 3 different types of welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, or gas metal arc.
- Certifications in welding, forklift operation, manlift operation, and respirator use may be required.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with various welding processes including plasma arc and submerged arc welding.
- Additional certifications in specialized welding techniques.
