About the position

The Detonator Production (DP) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a Computing Systems Professional to support the Secure Operations Management System (SOMS), which is essential for the collection of quality and manufacturing data for War Reserve detonators. This role involves database design, development, and programming, requiring collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure the system's functionality and integrity. The position offers opportunities for continuous improvement and technical excellence in a high-stakes environment focused on national security.

Responsibilities

  • Provide database design, development, and programming support for the Secure Operations Management System (SOMS).
  • Create and improve system features to ensure optimal performance.
  • Resolve issues promptly to maintain system integrity.
  • Support the maintenance and integrity of data required for product submittal.
  • Interface with customers to assess needs and capture requirements.
  • Plan, design, document, and implement program development solutions.
  • Develop plans for installing, configuring, and troubleshooting SOMS upgrades.
  • Coordinate Software Quality testing to ensure new functionality meets requirements.
  • Manage technical projects to fulfill customer needs (for level 3).
  • Research emerging technologies and industry trends (for level 3).
  • Mentor and train team members in SOMS database administration (for level 3).

Requirements

  • Knowledge of software and application development methodologies, tools, processes, integration, and testing.
  • Familiarity with databases such as FileMaker Pro, MS SQL Server, or MS Access.
  • Attention to detail, problem solving, and critical thinking to preserve data integrity.
  • Knowledge of hardware, operating systems, and client-server principles.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in high-stress environments.
  • Skill in working closely with customers to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in production manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with JavaScript and JSON data format.
  • Experience with database migration, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication with all levels of an organization.
