About the position

The Operations Manager - Aquatics at San Mateo County Community College District is responsible for overseeing the aquatic facilities, ensuring safety compliance, managing budgets, and coordinating staff and community engagement. This role requires strong leadership and organizational skills to maintain high operational standards while promoting student success and community involvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and coordination of the aquatic facilities.
• Supervise classified staff, student assistants, and lifeguards.
• Schedule the use of the aquatic facility to prioritize academic programs and community needs.
• Implement safety protocols and supervise training for lifeguards and safety staff.
• Manage the aquatics budget and seek cost reduction opportunities.
• Develop and track operational goals including budget and membership metrics.
• Coordinate pool maintenance and repairs with campus facilities or partners.
• Train incoming staff and assess lifeguard performance through drills and training.
• Provide general customer service and manage special events at the aquatic facility.
• Ensure compliance with state and county standards for aquatic facilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in aquatic facility management and operations.
• Current First Aid for Public Safety Personnel certification (Title 22) and CPR certification.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong leadership and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Certified Pool Operator/Aquatic Facility Operator certification.
• Current Lifeguard Instructor Certification with the requirement to attain Master Instructor Certification.
• Experience with payroll software and budgeting.
